The mission of Durango La Plata Crime Stoppers is a community effort to assist law enforcement in the apprehension of criminals. Our mission is accomplished through giving cash rewards to individuals who contact our tip line with information that leads to an arrest. People who call with tips enjoy strict anonymity. We work with the media, general public and law enforcement to achieve our mission.

Established 37 years ago, in April of 1978, Durango Crime Stoppers was the first Crime Stoppers organization in Colorado. It was fashioned after a Crime Stoppers organization in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Put simply it is a three part approach to solving the crime problem. Crime Stoppers relies on cooperation between the police, the media, and the general community to provide a flow of information about crime and criminals.
Information on unsolved crimes, crime of the week, wanted suspects, and sex offenders.
